Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly experienced Senior Protection Testing Engineer to join our expanding team in the India. This position is ideal for professionals with 1+ years of experience in the Testing and Commissioning of Protection Relays within high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems, particularly in the Transmission & Distribution Substation sector.
As part of our expert team, you will take the lead in the execution of protection relay testing and commissioning services for substations utilizing state-of-the-art testing equipment such as Omicron etc. Your technical expertise, leadership in managing testing procedures, and ability to mentor junior engineers will be key to the success of our projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the testing and commissioning of protection relays and schemes for (LV, MV, HV, and EHV ) Substations projects , ensuring adherence to industry standards and client specifications.
Interpret protection schemes and technical drawings, ensuring accurate relay configuration and testing procedures across multiple platforms.
Be proficient in configuring and testing protection relays from leading manufacturers (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, GE, and SEL), including their respective software tools and communication protocols.
Lead the commissioning, testing, and maintenance of HV protection systems, including IEC61850 / GOOSE communication protocols and secondary systems.
Provide leadership, technical support, and training to junior engineers and technicians, promoting knowledge transfer and ensuring high-quality work standards.
Prepare comprehensive commissioning/testing documentation, including protection test plans and detailed technical reports upon completion, with updates to drawings as necessary.
Utilize Omicron/Doble test equipment and software to conduct thorough testing and diagnostic tasks.
Ensure all testing and commissioning activities are carried out in compliance with applicable safety standards, project specifications, and utility procedures.
Coordinate with clients, consultants, OEMs, EPC contractors, and utility representatives to plan, execute, and successfully complete commissioning and energization activities.
Support system energization, operational readiness checks, and final handover of substations to the client and utility operations teams.
Provide daily progress reports to the Project Manager.
Key Requirements:
1+ years of experience in the Testing, and Commissioning of Protection relays
Proficiency in using secondary Injection Equipment of Omicron, Doble, and Megger for protection relay testing.
Demonstrated ability to supervise site work, manage resources, and coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Previous experience in Relay testing in power transmission and distribution is preferred.
Hands-on experience with leading manufacturers' protection relays (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, GE, SEL), including commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting.
In-depth knowledge of various types of protection Schemes (e.g., distance, overcurrent, differential, transformer protection) and their applications.
Strong understanding of Indian and international standards and codes of practice relevant to the HV industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree/Diplomo in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
1+ years of relevant field experience in protection relay testing and commissioning.
