Senior Protection testing Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and highly experienced Senior Protection Testing Engineer to join our expanding team in the Middle East. This position is ideal for professionals with 3+ years of experience in the Testing and Commissioning of Protection Relays within high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems, particularly in the Transmission & Distribution Substation sector.

As part of our expert team, you will take the lead in the execution of protection relay testing and commissioning services for substations (132kV, 220kV, 400kV), utilizing state-of-the-art testing equipment such as Omicron and Doble. Your technical expertise, leadership in managing testing procedures, and ability to mentor junior engineers will be key to the success of our projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the testing and commissioning of protection relays and schemes for Transmission Substations (132kV, 220kV, 400kV), ensuring adherence to industry standards and client specifications.

• Develop and review protection inspection test plans in coordination with the Commissioning Manager and project engineers, offering technical support throughout the process.

• Interpret protection schemes and technical drawings, ensuring accurate relay configuration and testing procedures across multiple platforms.

• Be proficient in configuring and testing protection relays from leading manufacturers (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, GE, and SEL), including their respective software tools and communication protocols.

• Lead the commissioning, testing, and maintenance of HV protection systems, including IEC61850 / GOOSE communication protocols and secondary systems.

• Provide leadership, technical support, and training to junior engineers and technicians, promoting knowledge transfer and ensuring high-quality work standards.

• Prepare comprehensive commissioning/testing documentation, including protection test plans and detailed technical reports upon completion, with updates to drawings as necessary.

• Utilize Omicron/Doble test equipment and software to conduct thorough testing and diagnostic tasks.

• Plan and execute electrical testing and commissioning work safely, always adhering to health and safety procedures.

• Manage interfaces between stakeholders, contractors, and other teams to ensure smooth project execution.

• Maintain a professional image when engaging with clients, ensuring excellent communication and customer satisfaction.

• Contribute to the success of projects by delivering quality testing results on time, within budget, and ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Key Requirements:

• Electrical Engineering Degree/Diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Hands-on experience with leading manufacturers' protection relays (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, GE, SEL), including commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting.

• In-depth knowledge of various types of protection relays (e.g., distance, overcurrent, differential, transformer protection) and their applications in high-voltage substations.

• Strong understanding of Indian and international standards and codes of practice relevant to the HV industry.

• 3+ years of experience in protection relay testing, with a proven track record in the Transmission and Distribution sector.

• Solid knowledge of relevant legislation, safety policies, and procedures related to electrical testing.

• Proven ability to meet project quality, schedule, and budget requirements.

• Strong commitment to promoting safety, professionalism, and clear communication throughout projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).

• 3+ years of relevant field experience in protection relay testing and commissioning.

• Familiarity with international safety and commissioning standards.
